Both the teams have something in common – a match with the Delhi Daredevils, but while the CSK lost their match, the RCB posted a win running over the DD team by 20 runs.
The fact that the CSK have won the IPL twice before might have given them some edge but after losing to the MI on their inaugural match and then to DD, these former champs have slid down the points table to the sixth place and look quite rusty. The CSK played a $2million gamble with Jadeja but it does not seem have paid off too well except in the game against the DC and out of three matches played so far, the only match won by them was against DC. So this time when Dhoni’s boys descend on the field, they will be looking to stop the Gayle (luckily not a Tsunami!)with a combination of Ashwin, Jakati, Bollinger and Morkel. Meanwhile watch out for the attack team comprising Plessis, Raina, Badrinath and Jadeja. Supporting them all the way will be the captain himself, Srikkanth Anirudha or Murali Vijay (depending on who is chosen to play) and Bravo. Moreover the CSk had the edge over RCB in six of their 11 previous fixtures, including the title clash in last year’s IPL so this might give them the mental boost to pull it off against the RCB today evening.
On the other hand, the RCB team is not planning to sit pretty either. They may have won over DD but were thumped by the KKR team who won the match by 42 runs. So going by the current situation, they are bound to be quite eager to save face by winning today’s match at the MA Chidambaram stadium, Chennai. With Gayle on their side they are probably hoping to blow away the opposition and with Kohli, Dilshan, Muralitharan and Zaheer Khan to follow up the onslaught along with Tiwary, Villiers, Agarwal, Kumar Patel or Mithun, Aravind or Mohammad (if he can clear up the visa problem), Skipper Vettori is probably already dreaming of a quick victory.
But as it has been proved every time since the inception of the DLF-IPL, neither the CSK nor the RCB team are to be taken lightly since both have the capacity for an unexpected turn-around. So fans, pull out those batons and horns and get ready to blow the house down (or the stadium!) at 4pm today evening when the CSK and RCB face off against each other at Chennai.
