At the YogART retreat participants will be offered an opportunity to have fun, relax, and undergo a journey of joyful self-discovery through the mediums of Art and Yoga. Art will be the focus of this retreat and yoga techniques will be used as a tool to supplement and enhance the creative experience. Through two days of drawing and painting, mixed media and collage work, puppet and doll making, storytelling and journaling, participants will have a chance to express creative abilities that are usually suppressed in everyday life, regain some of their childhood spontaneity and get fresh new ideas about how to make space for more creativity in their lives.
At the YogART retreat we will introduce gentle yoga techniques (basic pranayama and asana) which will be accessible to all and for which no preparation or prior experience is necessary. In a gentle and supportive way we will learn how to release tension and stress from the body tissues, how to balance our emotions and infuse our body with positive energy, as well as how to open our heart chakra and work effectively with others through specially selected asanas, pranayama techniques and partner yoga work. Parallel themes will be covered through both art and yoga, to achieve a more complete and satisfying creative experience. See below for a detailed schedule of this retreat.
The facilitator for this retreat is Tia Pleiman. She is an Art Therapist living and working in the International Township of Auroville in Tamil Nadu, South India. Tia works in several Tamil villages around Auroville using Art Therapy as a building block for the development of Human Unity, a tool for interpersonal communication, self- expression and the acquisition of new skills. She uses art to provide participants with a voice where one may not have existed, as well as to build confidence, self-esteem and a sense of cultural identity.
The Retreat will be held in Auroville, an international community 20 minutes away from Pondicherry in South India. It is a quiet little town with approx. 2000 inhabitants. Once a barren area, Auroville has become green, thanks to reforestation. Auroville has a semitropical climate. Temperatures peak in May/June (the Summer months), and go beyond 40 degrees, while in winter (November to March) the day temperatures are between 24 and 30. The Monsoon in October/November brings the temperatures down.
