World Music Day 2012

AP TOURISM in association with Grandslaam Network, Hyderabad presents and celebrates OneWorld Fusion Extravaganza as a part of World MUSIC DAY celebrations.

Music is the universal language of humankind and connects people irrespective of language and cultural ethos. As such, the world Music day is bringing you a blend of various genres such as Western Jazz, Western Rhythm, Hindustani & Carnatic music and even Bollywood Vocals in a beautiful fusion.

So get ready to captivate your senses with World Music from:

Pt Bickram Ghosh (Tabla): A percussionist par excellence, Pt Bickram Ghosh’s name is wellknown in the musical circles as a classical and new age artist-composer as well as a member of the fusion band Rhythmscape. With numerous solo recordings and over forty accompaniment albums, he has performed along side most of the legends of the Indian classical music industryand is famous for his incredible range on the tabla. As one of the foremost table players of ourcountry he has also performed with many great pop, Jazz and Western Classical artists and is best known for his performance alongside Ravi Shankar on the album 'Full Circle' which earned a Grammy Award.

Jonathan Kay (Soprano Sax): A part of the famous Canada based Indo-jazz music group - The Monsoon Duo - Jonathan Kay is well known for his unique mix of jazz and Indian classicalmusic played on the soprano and tenor saxophones while his brother, Andrew Kay performson the alto saxophone. The music is a blend of contemporary jazz and Indian classical musicusually played alongside Indian classical musicians. Jonathan has performed alongside some ofthe world’s leading Jazz musicians and Indian Maestros.

Andrew Kay (Alto Sax): Professional saxophonist, woodwind musician the other half of the Monsoon Duo, Andrew Kay and his brother are known to draw their inspiration from the famous jazz musician John Coltrane who in turn was influenced by classical Indian music. Over the past 10 years, Andrew has performed all over Canada, the U.S.A., Europe and India in a wide range of styles including Modern & Contemporary Jazz, Experimental, Hip-Hop, Funk/R&B, Eastern European, World Music and Indian Classical Music.

Pulak Sarkar (Keyboard): The most highly sought after professional keyboard player, Pulak Sarkar has performed in all major recordings and concerts in India as well as overseas at several venues at U.K., U.S.A. and Canada. Trained in Indian classical vocal music and Rabindra Sangeet, he is also a composer and music arranger associated with All India Radio and television, for film and non-film music.

Sowmya Raoh (Bollywood Playback Singer): Known for captivating the audiences with her beautiful voice, Soumya Raoh has worked with famous music directors like A.R Raman, singer Sonu Nigam and others in the film industry. Well known as the voice behind the title trackof “Welcome” and “Krazzy 4” her repertoire also includes songs in movies like Jungle, PyarTune Kya Kiya, Company, Dum, Bunty Aur Babli, Samay etc. She has also lent her voice to non-film projects and won the STARDUST AWARD in 2003 as the Best New Singer for " Laila Laila" from SAMAY.

Pt Ronu Majumdar (Flute): A world class flautist, Pt Ronu Majumdar is known to music lovers all over the world. Synonymous with the Bansuri, his music belongs to the Maihar gharana,the same gharana as Pt. Ravi Shankar and Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. A Grammy nominee (1996),he has been performed in some of the world’s most prestigious venues including The Kremlin, Moscow; The Palais de Beaux Arts, Brussels and others. With numerous awards, accolades and albums to his name, this musical virtuoso has also performed with some of the greatest names in the Western and Indian music industry.


Rajhesh Vaidhya (Electronic Veena): Rajesh Vaidhya is best known in the Veena and south Indian music tradition. He is also a part of the multi starred phenomenal international album "playing for change” and has performed with the Switzerland based contemporary dance troupe "Bejart Ballet". Brought up in a musical family, his Veena playing is remarkable for astounding speed, use of electric and amplified strings which not only makes it an audible explosion, but also a visual delight.

Arun Kumar (Drums): Inspired by his drummer father, Arun Kumar trained in Carnatic percussion and plays on the western drums, morsing and several Indian folk percussions. Hasbeen in the field of music since 1986 and rendered percussion support to Carnatic Classical, Talavadya, Jazz Music, Light Music and dance performances. He has also performed in all over India and has extensively toured USA, UK, Canada, Germany, Holland, France, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Belgium, Spain, Luxemburg Hong Kong and Sri Lanka.
