We also have teams coming from Railways, Central Exercise, Postal dept & Military ( Red & Green), AOC who have participated in national tournaments and won many championships.
In the next editions and coming years of these games our endeavor is to include games like Kabaddi, Kho-Kho, Atheletics, Javelin, Longjump, High Jump, Shortput, Discuss throw.
This tournament was happening from the last 3 years and has been a grand success, this initiative was taken by the Gumaledar family on the occassion of Mr. Vijay Kumar Gumaledar's death anniversary. Mr. Gumaledar actively encouraged this sport. The whole expenses of this tournament are borne by the Gumaledar family.
The activities include funding a library, conducting Medical camps, distributing food to the poor & a inter village/town Volleyball competition. Of all the activities I have observed that over the years Volleyball has gained a lot of traction and this was mostly by word of mouth. For first year we had 3 teams and then it went up to 10 teams and last year we had about 25 teams participating. Our village that way is bit strategically located on the banks of river Godavari & only a bridge separates Andhra Pradesh & Maharashtra. So the representation was from both the states, about 15 teams from Andhra Pradesh & 10 from Maharashtra.
The main objectives of this tournament:
·to promote local talent which helps them to appear in state/national level tournaments
make it an annual event in this part of the world and extend this platform to other sports in the coming years. Five years down the line it should reach the scale of rural olympics as conducted in Ludhiana www.ruralolympics.net
· nurture & encourage sports persons who would eventually use this as a spring board to play for India
· inspire others who can do similar efforts in their own villages or part of the country for common good
· replicate this model across India, one event in each state of India every year
