TRANSE EXPRESS: CELESTIAL CARILLON
Tuesday, February 13
People's Plaza, from 7pm
Free and Open to all
In the framework of Bonjour India Festival 2017-18, Alliance Française Hyderabad with Krishnakriti Foundation brings Celestial Carillon by Transe Express, with the support of Telangana Government.
The CARILLON is an ensemble of harmonised bells on which music can be played by hand or automatically.
The BELL RINGER appeared at the end of the Middle-Age, at first to get people’s attention on specific announces, then to give time. With the strong resonating power of the bells, carillons are placed high to address a city.
With the “Celestial carillon”, no need for a tower or a belfry. Since 1987, French performance company Transe Express enters the maze of the cities, playing with their articulations, and surprising passersby.
This performance crosses childhood memories of a carillon – a music-box with an automatic set of bells – with grand outdoor fairground rides. A bewitching orchestra of 17 bell-ringers and aerialists is lifted 55 meters skywards in this magical concert and theatre where audiences face artists, and the machinery of the carillon is confronted with architecture. An orchestra of bell players will be lifted in the air and will create the event within a city, the sound of bells being heard by several thousands people without any amplification.
In an effort to bring art outdoors and turn city into stage, Bonjour India brings Transe Express to India with Celestial Carillon, an aerial performance inspired by Calder that combines theatre, music and fine arts.
