About The Event

Dilip Chaudhry has been ever popular for poetically capturing the daily life of Kolkata and the ghats of Benares. He sees these cities constantly reinventing themselves without losing out on their original essence of character. His works are real portraits of the city pulsating with action, mirroring its strengths and weakness in artistic strokes and rhythm. These paintings are not flat, architectural depictions of the cities but paint the essence of daily lives - the people, the movements, the skies.

Dilip uses fine balance between light and shade and a strong perspective to executed truly riveting canvases infused with life, each carrying a unique story to narrate. He depicts Kolkata with a profusion of monsoons, abundant populace, and heritage structures. The hand pulled rickshaw is one of the oldest modes of transport in Kolkata, and his works show the daily struggles of the rickshaw pullers.

"All the hand driven rickshaw pullers are people migrated from the neighbouring state of Bihar, and it is the story of their struggle. I also love the geometrical form of a hand driven rickshaw."

The character, their attire, accessories, and their movement make it a work of art by itself and this immensely inspired Dilip Chaudhry's works.

Make sure you visit the 8th floor of UB City to experience the poetic narratives of these two historic cities, by Dilip Chaudhry.
