About The Event

This is where chemistry, biology and tinkering come together to create a product systematically and creatively or apply concepts of science to real world to unsolved nature's mysteries. This a very unique module for the lovers of biology and chemistry.  Take a look at the activities you would do:

  • Extract DNA from anything, EVEN YOUR OWN
  • DNA fingerprinting
  • Finger print analysis
  • Making paper from trash and garden waste
  • Make your favourite perfumed soap
  • Colour Extraction from nature
  • Making biodegradable plastics
  • Measuring the calorific value of food substances
  • Antibiotics - Good for Bad and Bad for Good
  • Antibacterial effectiveness
  • Microbial diversity of hand and mouth
  • Observing various types of plants and animal cells
  • Respiration in seeds and plants
  • Separating blood plasma using a paper toy

This module gives a wide exposure of biology and chemistry-based experiments, many of them typically performed at junior college level, but certainly can be understood at the high school level.  Biochemistry based experiments are definitely enriching.

Duration: 24 hours (4 hours a day for 6 days)

Minimum Age:  13 years

Module Anchor: Atishaya

About Atishaya: Atishaya Kumar Saksham is a post-graduate from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore with a major in Earth and Environmental Science. Atishaya is deeply passionate about science and wants to promote it amongst students. Despite being selected by IIT to pursue engineering, Atishaya chose to pursue his passion for pure science and joined IISc. He is a recipient of KVPY fellowship (Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna) from the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.  Atishaya’s research experience ranges from Environmental Computation and Modelling to Bio and Chemical Remediation. When he’s not immersed in scientific research, Atishaya volunteers for various social events related to education.
