 Many of us experience stress in life, whether this is in the short term from one-off projects, or long-term stress from a high-pressure situations.

Not only can this be profoundly unpleasant, it can seriously affect our health and our work. However, it ispossible to manage stress, if you use the right tools and techniques.

In this festival, we'll look at what stress is, what increases your risk of experiencing it, and how you can manage it, so that it doesn't affect your well-being and productivity.

What Is Stress?

A widely accepted definition of stress, attributed to psychologist and professor Richard Lazarus, is, "a condition or feeling experienced when a person perceives that demands exceed the personal and social resources the individual is able to mobilize."

This means that we experience stress if we believe that we don't have the time, resources, or knowledge to handle a situation. In short, we experience stress when we feel "out of control."

This also means that different people handle stress differently, in different situations: you'll handle stress better if you're confident in your abilities, if you can change the situation to take control, and if you feel that you have the help and support needed to do a good job.

Reactions to Stress

We have two instinctive reactions that make up our stress response. These are the "fight or flight" response, and the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS). Both of these reactions can happen at the same time.

Dr.Siladitya Ray, MD is practicing as Consultant Holistic Psychiatrist and Stress Management Expert for the last 25 years. He did his MD in Psychological Medicine from the prestigious National Institute of Mental Health & Neurosciences (NIMHANS) in Bangalore. He operated a very famous personal column in Times of India called 'Mind Mapping' from 1997 - 2000. There are several researches, papers, workshops,  and guest lectures to his credit. The Day will commence with enticing Flute  by Himadri Mukherjee, with a few moments of Guided Meditations.

Brief Profile  of Instrumentalist & Flute Player Himadri Mukherjee ( Pointer 1981 Batch)

Himadri Mukherjee  had started taking piano lessons when he was fifteen from his mother who had learnt to play western classical tunes from her teacher in England. Later he grew passion to play reed instruments and took lessons on clarinet from his renowned Goan teacher. His passion grew futher to collect restore and be able to play other rare acoustic wind instruments like pedal organs , accordions and ancient & folk wind instruments of Mesoamerica , North Sahara and Levant of Middle East. Sindh , China and finally our own Bamboo flute of East India. Yes ! our very own. Although the whole world was playing flutes of different types for millenia , the side blown big sized bamboo flute was invented by our own Late Pandit Pannalal Ghosh the maesto who converted the folk flute into a full fledged beautiful concert instrument and demonstrated it's ability to be used as a classical instrument  and introduced it to the whole world as one of the pillars of North Indian classical music.--

The Day will end with the invigorating presentation of Dance Therapy with special  talk on BIODANZA by  Dancepreneur Chandrayee Chattopadhyay  ( Pointer 2012 Batch)


Biodanza is a human integration system of organic renewal, of  affective re-education, and of re-learning of the life original functions. Its application consists in leading vivencias through music, singing, movements and group encounter situations.

The Biodanza integration process is carried out through the stimulation of  primordial functions connected to life that allows every single person to be integrated with himself, with species and universe.  It’s the practice that aims to the organic self-regulation, mainly made by special  conditions of trance. They activate cells reparation and global regulation of biological function processes, reducing stress and disorganization factors.It’s the ability to set relationships with other people.Vivencias in Biodanza are integrative because they have a harmonizing effect.


Chandrayee Chattopadhyay, has been trained in gymnastic ballet and contemporary dance forms. She loves working with movement and conducts workshops on and movements.  With a concept of - dance is never a talent as it comes to the body involuntarily, this session of Biodanza will be organized by her for all those who wants to let their body flow with the music.
