Theme – Odd One Out
Sometimes we feel we don’t belong, it’s as though we are the odd ones out. It could be in our own families, could be with a group of friends or with a bunch of colleagues. There are moments that many of us may have experienced when we feel that there’s something that we need to do in order to belong. What is it that makes us sometimes feel left out?
Have you ever experienced this in your life? What did you do to deal with such a situation? Do come and share your story if you have one. If you feel you don’t have a story that fits the theme or you are not yet ready to share, you could come along and listen to others sharing their stories. Listening to others sharing their stories may trigger a memory of a similar incident in your life and then you’ll be ready to share. Whether it’s to listen or to share, stories have the power to change us because stories help us understand ourselves and others better.
If you have never experienced an open mic where participants share their personal stories, then come over and meet new people and bond with them over stories.
Great friendships are made over stories because that’s what stories do. They remind us that we are all social beings who love to talk and to be heard. In this digital era when friendships happen on social media and there’s no real emotional connect, this is one space that is non-judgemental and extremely supportive.
