Program Introduction

The new era has seen tremendous advancements in the field of agricultural, engineering, life and health sciences. There has been a great deal of activity in the area of patenting in these disciplines. There is thus a need to understand the ongoing research policy trends and its implications on intellectual property development and also appreciate the positive it plays.

In today’s rapidly changing world, scientific and technological advancement is an important catalytic factor in industrial development and economic progress of the country. The relationship between intellectual property and innovations in life sciences & engineering sectors is of immediate interest in India. Until recently, most companies used internal research and development as their only method of innovation. However, companies are now proactively considering all sources of innovation, both internal and external, to remain competitive. It is thus essential to understand the role of “Intellectual Assets” as a key driver for competitive advantage.
