About The Event

The key takeaways from this two-hour presentation are:

  • You will identify which camera and lens is ideal for you—whatever your subject and budget.
  • Get simple explanations to technical terms used in photography.
  • Tips that will instantly improve your pictures.
  • Take the next steps in travel, wildlife, and portrait photography.
  • Learn how to set up a professional portrait studio at home/office with a small budget.
  • Store your precious cameras and lenses so that it’s fungus free.

Have you often wondered about getting into photography, but didn’t know how to get started?

  • Which type of camera will suit you the most?
  • Which lenses will be ideal to make the pictures that you yearn to click?
  • How much of your hard-earned money should you invest in photography upfront?
  • How long will your investment serve you?
  • And what results can you expect?
  • Do you have clarity about the above questions?

Don’t you think it’s wise to seek professional advice and purchase the right kind of equipment rather than make an uninformed decision and regret later?

I have found that you can save between ₹ 15,000 and ₹ 40,000 on photography equipment if you get the correct advice first—avoid buying and re-buying equipment that serves you poorly.

I regret not seeking advice when I started my journey in photography. If I had got the right advice at the right time, I could have saved over ₹90,000 on cameras and lenses alone.

Solutions on cameras, lenses, and photography—with Girish Menon is a two-hour presentation, and demonstration, that will show you precisely how to start—whatever your budget!

Some of the topics we will cover are:

  • Understand the different types of cameras from point-and-shoot cameras to bridge, mirrorless and DSLR cameras.
  • Understand what is a “full frame” DSLR, “cropped sensor” DSLR, and “micro four thirds” sensor.
  • Understand different types of lenses—wide angle lens, normal lens, prime lens, zoom lens, telephoto, and super-telephoto lenses etc.
  • Identify the camera and lens that will be most suited for your needs.
  • Introduction to Aperture, Shutter speed and ISO sensitivity.
  • Tips on lighting and composition.
  • Getting started with travel and wildlife photography.
  • Introduction to external flash (speedlights) and demonstration on how to use a speedlight to photograph weddings and events.
  • Demonstration on portrait photography using off-camera speedlights
  • Tips on how to set up your home portrait studio with a small budget.
  • How to store your photography equipment so that it’s clear of moisture and fungus.

Girish Menon made his first pictures in his teens - a set of 36 photographs on a film camera. Already possessing an interest in experiencing wildlife, cultures and ancient knowledge that were quickly fading, he took off on a solo trip to South India after quitting his IT job. He took up photography full time on his return and has been facilitating workshops since 2007, and has been a visiting faculty for photography at SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai. Girish has taught photography to over 4,000 photography buffs in Mumbai, Pune, Goa, and Raipur.
