About The Event

If you are working for a people and working with a people, and looking for a better way of collaboration, co-creation or governance, Sociocracy is a way forward. Join us for a 3-day residential workshop to understand and experience its principles and framework. 

As a tool or methodology, Sociocracy is a system of governance, or a framework of organizing the ‘working together’ of a group:
  • it helps the group to gather around a shared purpose, and thus empowers people
  • facilitates organization-wide flow and effective use of information, and
  • enables working in a way that is collaborative and self-organizing 
  • empowers people 
  • inspires participation 
With the result that every person in the organization has a potential to affect change: when they see an issue, an opportunity, or a better way of doing something, there is a framework in place to process this immediately.
 
 
Sociocracy is founded upon
  • equivalence of voice (explained below)
  • decision-making and elections by consent (explained below) 
  • self-organizing ‘circles’ to carry out the work - by making feedback and evaluation a part of all activities 
  • 'double-linking' of representatives to interconnect the elements of an organization - to enable effective flow of information from top to bottom, and back 
Equivalence of voice: Sociocracy takes the popular democratic ideal of ‘every voice is equal’ (equality), and turns it into a workable practice of 'every voice is of equal value' (equivalence). It does this by valuing every voice in the context of the purpose and place of their role in that structure.
 
Decisions based on consent rather than consensus: Decisions are made only in the absence of reasoned objection from those affected by them. And the consent is based on the decision being “good enough for now” and “safe enough to try”…
 
Today, a variety of organizations use sociocracy in The Netherlands, other European countries, Brazil, and the United States. They range from building and manufacturing companies, to healthcare organizations, to a public school system, Institutes and even a Buddhist monastery. It is part of the curriculum and practice of several Dutch universities and technical colleges.

About John Buck:
 
John is CEO of the international consulting, training and facilitation firm GovernanceAlive, LLC ( http://www.governancealive.com) since 2007. He is keynote speaker at conferences in the USA and Europe. John is also co-director of the non-profit Center for Dynamic Community Governance ( http://www.dynamic-governance.org). An expert in governance methods and organizational design, he serves on the boards of various organizations.
 
John mentors, trains, consults and conducts workshops in many counties including the United States, Canada, Netherlands, the United Kingdom, India, Korea, Spain, Portugal, and New Zealand. He also teaches online classes with a global audience.
 
John Buck is co-author with Sharon Villines of the book, We the People: Consenting to a Deeper Democracy (2nd Edition 2017). He has also co-authored another book, Company-wide Agility with Beyond Budgeting, Open Space & Sociocracy: Survive & Thrive on Disruption (March 2018) with Jutta Eckstein.
 
 
About Umesh Mangroliya:
Umesh is a founder of the Co-Creative Solutions, a consulting, training and facilitation firm that works with individuals, organizations, community and institutes to enable better ways of collaboration and co-creation! 
 
This year, he is on his mission to find out ways/system/design to bring humanity to business, and living a life of being, "no mask, no drama". He has worked with more than 50 organizations in India and trained more than 7000 people on different operational excellence methodology and governance framework.
