Silambam has being used by ancient Dynasty Chola, Dynasty Chera, and Pandya Kings of South India during the Sangam period. It is widely used by military Maravar in Travancore. Maravar, one of the King of Travancore use Silambam in their warfare against their enemy. Royal Military Veerapandiya Kattabomma mostly depends on their skills using Silambam in their warfare against the British Army.

NOTE:
Event 1: Single Stick
Ottrai Kai pidi ( Single hand hold) & Irattai Kai Pidi ( Double Hand hold) Nedunkambu Silambam korvai.
1. The player will be given a time period of two minutes to display his/ her skills in Silamabam with
a Single Stick using Single hand & both hands.
2. The player has to perform different lessons on 4 sides to get completely qualified and marks will
not be provided if the same lesson is repeated in more than one side.
3. The player has to stop performing once the whistle is blown, which indicates the end of the
allocated time.
4. Referees decision will be final and no arguments with the referees by the players will be
encouraged.
Event 2: Double Stick
Irattai Kambu Alangara Silambam.
1. The player will be given a time period of two minutes to display his/ her skills in Silamabam with
Two Sticks using both hands.
2. The player has to perform different lessons on 4 sides to get completely qualified and marks will
not be provided if the same lesson is repeated in more than one side.
3. The player has to stop performing once the whistle is blown, which indicates the end of the
allocated time.
4. Referees decision will be final and no arguments with the referees by the players will be
encouraged.
Event 3: Combat Fight
Neradi Thodumurai
1. Players within a specific weight category will be allowed to fight against each other.
2. Players should not enter the combat area wihtout the safety gears.
3. Players should obey the instructions given the by center refree at all stages of the fight.
4. Referees decision will be final and no arguments with the referees by the players will be
encouraged.
