Introduction to Carbon Accounting & GHG Inventory Management

Objectives 

The purpose of this training course is to provide practitioners with the skills and knowledge necessary to develop a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventory in accordance with the set of requirements specified in ISO 14064-1 standard.

The course is suitable for practitioners with an interest in improving their understanding of carbon accounting and developing skills in GHG inventories. Some previous knowledge of climate change/GHG reporting would be useful for the participants.

By the end of this course, delegates will be able to:

 

a)  General awareness about the Climate Change and developments Globally, Green House Gases, their sources and sinks

b)  Describe the concepts of GHG inventories, carbon footprints and carbon neutrality (GHG/Carbon Accounting)

c)  Explain the approaches for organisational and operational boundaries in GHG reporting

d)  Understand the requirements of ISO 14064-1 and the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol

e)  Describe GHG Reporting Principles

f)  Have a practical understanding of how to calculate GHG emissions for organisational inventories

g)  Understand how to prepare a GHG inventory and reporting format according to ISO 14064-1

h)  Identify key requirements in GHG control systems and procedures

This course comprises lecture and workshop exercises. It is delivered using accelerated learning techniques, to ensure your training goals are realised in an interactive and rewarding way. Delegates should bring a laptop computer if possible as the course includes calculation exercises.
