Trek to Saurkundi Lake is one of the few unexplored, lesser known & one of the most spectacular and impressive treks of Kullu Valley, Himachal Pradesh.
This trek is on the trail to Kalihani Pass and Bara Bhangal. The trail will give you enough chances to explore the serene snowy Himalayan meadows along with breathtaking views of Himalayan range.
With an altitude of 13000 feet above sea level, the beautiful snow covered lake of Saurkundi will wash away all your negativity and fill your mind with the pure Himalayan natural beauty.
Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive at Patlikuhal (about 16 kms before Manali) around morning time. For today you can have your breakfast at any of the nearby Dhabas. After that we will board a vehicle to go till the last village Shangchar.
Once everyone’s ready we will set out to engage in the first round of trekking today.
After 4-5 hours of trekking, we will reach Mahili, a grazing meadow at a height of about 9800 feet. Cross the steep trekking route that go through the thickets covered by Deodar and Pine trees.
Overnight stay at Mahili.
Day 2
After breakfast in the morning, get ready to trek to Saurkundi lake. Saurkundi lake is believed to be dedicated to Maharishi Shandilya. Locals have a belief that it is sacred to take a dip in the water of this lake.
Saurkundi offers an unforgettable 360 degree views of the prototypical nature, untamed by humans. Towards the west, there is Kalihani Pass at 16000 feet and in the east there’s Mt. Indrasan at 6221 meters and Mt. Deo Tibba at 6001 meters.
The whole beauty of the Dhauladhar range and Pir Panjal range would be visible from the lakeside pass and it would be more than enough to make your heart remain stolen.
Depending upon the snow conditions we’ll either camp nearby overnight or descend back to Basecamp Mahili.
Day 3
A gradual ascent begins after Balu Ka Ghera (bear’s den), known for wild flowers, rocks and caves.
A further trail takes you to the Hamta pass. This is where one gets a fantastic view of Inderkila, DeoTibba (6001m) and Indrasan (6220m), which will promisingly be one hell of an experience.
The views of the snow-capped peaks and glaciers will take your breath away. After crossing the Hampta pass, one enters the Lahaul valley. Then, walk down to the campsite near by the stream.
A cold, yet comfortable night’s sleep awaits you.
