"Rwituparno Ghosh"
Story Synopsis
It is not a biography of late Rwitupamo Ghosh, rather this play talks about those people of our society, who lives an isolated life due to their sexual orientation, their outlook and their lifestyle. Here Rituparno Ghosh is used as a symbolic icon. Though we are showing immense respect for Rwituparno after his death now, but before the scenario were a bit different, many effeminate people were being mocked by calling them `Rwituparno'. This story is about Apratim, a guy from a middle class Bengali family of Kolkata, who lives a life of imprisonment inside his own house. One day he was mocked by the name `Rwituparno' in public. Out of extreme humiliation and anger Apratim bursts out saying that one day we will find the words like `panzy', 'homosexual', `transgender', `chakka' and etc as the synonyms of Rwituparno' in the dictionary. The story of the play revolves around on the day which Rwituparno Ghosh died.
The specialty of this play is that, it has been derived from various writings of Rwituparno, even the name of the characters is also inspired from his various films like Apra tim (Aabohoman), Bandana (The Last Lear), Jhinuk (Dahan), Indranil (Sob Charitro Kalponik), Partha (Chitrangada), Arindam (Subhomohorat) and Thammi (Dahan).
We think this is the perfect time to present such a p lay to the Bengali Audience. Through his films like `Memories In March', Chitrangada' and At. Ekti Premer Golpo' Rituparno has paved the way of a new sight to the society, to maintain his shown path and to show our gratefulness to him, this is aright tribute.
