Kirans Academy of Natya presents RAVANEEYAM
Ramayana is one of the world’s well-renowned mythologies that has been adapted and translated by many scholars and laureates across the globe. Over the years, Ramayana has been creatively interpreted and conveyed to the audience of various ages and times by artists and scholars. Although the crux of the story remains the same, the adaptations and interpretations have found their way to suit various eras of time and age. One such humble attempt is that of our dance drama “Ravaneeyam”.
Ravaneeyam praises the individual Ravana for his valour and integrities that he held leaving aside the circumstantial errors that he committed. The main objective of Ravaneeyam is to convey that an individual becomes “Rama” or “Ravana” solely because of his circumstantial provocations and not because of who he is.
Owing to the creative freedom of an artist, this dance drama is a modest initiative to showcase a different perspective of King Ravana and his deeds. From our "Kirans Academy of Natya"
Sri. Gopukiran Sadasivan, widely known as the senior disciple of Padmabhushan Dhananjayans, needs no introduction in the world of Bharatanatyam. Unarguably, one of the best Bharatanatyam dancers in India has ever produced, the works and legacy of Gopukiran extend beyond the borders of his country.
Smt. Aashin Kiran is a talented artist, dedicated teacher, the exceptional performer, and a pillar of support for Gopukiran. Although she got her training initially from Kerala, she is an alumnus of the great institute of Kalakshetra. She’s also an M.A. in Bharatanatyam and has a total experience of over 22 years in this field of dance. Like her husband, she has also presented at various prestigious events and festivals across India.
