The Rann of Kutch is a salt marshy land in the Thar Desert in the Kutch district of western Gujarat. It is famous for its white salty desert sand and is reputed to be the largest salt desert in the world. The Rann of Kutch region is also home to a range of ecologically rich wildlife such as the flamingos and the wild ass that can be spotted around the desert often.
The government of Gujarat holds a three month long festival known as ‘The Rann Utsav’ every year starting from December to February. This festival of Kutch celebrates the colour of the region, providing an arena for the arts and crafts of Gujarat to be displayed and purchased. From folk dance (Garba, Hallisaka, and Tippani) performance to scrumptious Gujarati thali, from moonlit camera safari to folk dramas, the festival is organised to celebrate the uniqueness and culture of the Kutch region.
For those who want to explore the region, apart from the festival can visit nearby sight-seeing spots. There are many places such as Kala Dungar (balck hill), Indo-Pak border, Swami-Narayan temple and more places to explore.
