The piece "PURPOSE " choreographed by Sonia Soney aims to question the unjust gender stereotypes in society.
The piece revolves around the idea of the poem "Still I Rise" by Maya Angelo which relates to a bird's liberty song. Oppression is everywhere , a lot silenced, which indirectly promotes a stable growth in corruption, which in the long run is a difficult pattern to break. Change cannot happen overnight. Patriarchy and misogyny has been deeply etched into our systems over generations.
The fact that a lot of women deny their own potential as an equal due to the patriarchal and cultural conditioning is why this piece needs to be heard. Change will happen , one step at a time. An evening of hope in all its hopelessness. An evening inviting oneself to heal.
