About The Event

After 14 years of banishment, Lord Ram, his loyal wife Sita and devoted brother Laxman, returned home to Ayodhya. It was ‘amavasya’ or the night of no moon and the people of Ayodhya lit ‘diyas’ to guide them home. This was the advent of Diwali which we celebrate with such pomp and joy every year.

The story of Lord Ram, Sita and Laxman, has been handed down from generation to generation. The Ramayana – the epic that tells their tale is considered a holy text. It is the Ramleela – the dramatized version of the Ramayana which is staged across India every year, regaling youngsters and adults alike with scenes from the Ramayana. Children in particular look forward to the ‘vanar sena’ - monkey army – which helps Lord Ram win his wife Sita back from the Lanka King Ravan.

The Ramleela has been accorded the status of Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage by UNESCO, and there have been several interpretations of it over the years with the Ramleela being played in villages and cities in India.

Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development in association with Grooming Babies will stage a special version of the Ramleela which uses puppet characters. The puppets have been created by puppeteer and veteran academician Sahba Bhandula. The production by Grooming Babies has been awarded the ‘Maha Ramleela Sanmaan 2016' by ABP News for being the best Ramleela of Maharashtra. This is the Grooming Babies seventh year of staging the puppet version of the Ramleela which has been appreciated across several prominent schools and children’s festivals in Mumbai.

Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development is proud to present this award-winning Ramleela for the children at Rustomjee Urbania. Just another reason why life at Urbania is never with a dull moment and where entertainment means fun with friends and interesting events rather than a mobile or television screen!
