Why Everybody Should Learn to Build a Web Site

In the past, if you wanted to spread the word about who you are and what your business is all about, you pounded the pavement or placed an ad in the yellow pages and hoped that your loyal customers will tell a couple of their friends that you existed.  And while that still has a certain romantic charm, it is the 21st Century.  As such, the main way that a small business can establish a presence is by creating a website.

Given the role that the internet plays in our lives, the ability to build a web site seems like it should be as important as learning to read or write. Whether you’re aspiring to become a published author, record a CD, or build a business, the ability to build a web site is going to be an essential asset. There’s no way to really be relevant without it.

Regardless of the size of your business, or what kind of business you are, a website is essential for the growth of your business.  There are several reasons that a website is a must:

• Credibility – The small business that doesn’t have a website tends to get marginalized with each passing year.  Not only are they tougher to find online, but there seems to be a growing level of distrust for any business that does not have some sort of web presence.
• Better visibility – It’s no secret that virtually everyone uses the internet.  It’s also pretty common knowledge that most people will log into the web whenever they need to find a nearby product or service – an activity that especially serves the small business that thrives on local clientele rather well.  Having a website will help put a small business in front a potential neighborhood customer that takes to the internet in order to find whatever product that small business is selling.  Without a website, there is a very high possibility that such a customer will never know the small business exists.
• More business – Having a website will allow more people to be aware of your business.  And if there are more people aware of your existence, more people will most likely pay you a visit.  By that rationale, it stands to reason that more people will become paying customers.

Not as Difficult of a Process

Many small businesses do not have an established website because they are intimidated by all of the perceived work that goes into creating one.  However, the reality is that the modern website is not all that difficult to set up, and it’s even easier to maintain and manage on a daily basis – even if you’re not a tech-head.

The bottom line is this:  If you own a small business and if you don’t have a website, you will find it significantly more difficult to compete with small businesses that do have websites as the years go by.
