About The Event

National silk expo, offers more than 1,50,000 varieties of new designs for the women, who are looking for the latest designs and new fashions. The tie and dye, Bandhej, block and Dabu, Batik, Gadwal, Pochampally, Chikan work, Kalamkari, Kantha, Kutch, Kasuti and Kashida are some of the finest varieties that one can choose from this kaleidoscopic panorama.

The display of saree of all hues and patterns makes an appearance as if the vivid colours from the palette were splashed all over the wall. While modernity has its due share, the ethnic patterns and bright handmade prints reign supreme at the expo currently under way at Hotel Tip Top Plaza, Opp. Raheja Garden, LBS Road, Be it Pochampally and Kalamkari or the equally-traditional Kolkata or Bhagalpuri prints, Lucknow Chikan work, Banaras silk all eyes are on the traditional wear, including saris, salwars, tops or even the linen range.

The collection of Matka silk, woven with ‘resham pallu’ called ‘byloom’ saris, gives a peek into West Bengal’s artistic finesse in creating handlooms of different kinds. If you have an affinity for softer silk, the stall from Madhya Pradesh has brought a pleasing collection of Mulberry silk. ‘Chanderi’ saris from Madhya Pradesh in ‘patli pallu’ and ‘kalamkari’ prints & Gujarat Patola & Bandhini are one of the new collections here.

The expo, which is going to be concluded on March 19, showcases some classy silks which are ideal for party wears. Here you will also find Bandhej or Bandhini — the finely woven fabric knotted tightly and dyed to achieve a distinct design. The sarees, odhnis (veils) and turbans of Rajasthan are a medley of brilliant colours. The expo also lends you the opportunity to buy magnificent silk sarees of bright colours with silver or gold zari works from the temple towns like Kancheepuram.
