Devotees of Mamtamai Shri Radhe Maa across the world are looking forward to a big event in the days ahead – 31st March 2012. This is when Devi Maa’s devotees in Punjab attend a grand Shobha Yatra (Glory Procession) at the Shakti Peetha Devi Talab Mandir in Jalandar, India.
The temple, which is located a kilometer from Jalandar railway station, is in the heart of the city. The presiding deity of the Devi Talab Mandir temple is Maa Kali in her aspect as Tripuramalini who rules the city with her consort Lord Shiva who is present as Bhishan Bhairav.
The puranas state that Maa Sati immolated herself after her father Daksha insulted her husband Lord Shiva. This enraged Lord Shiva who opened his terrifying third eye and danced a fierce tandava across the earth with the body of his beloved Sati in his arms. The gods afraid that the Lord’s anger would destroy the universe sought the assistance of Lord Vishnu who dispatched his all-powerful discus – Sudarshan Chakra – to cut Sati’s body into pieces. Every spot that received a portion of Maa Sati’s body became in the ages that followed a place of worship for devotees of the Goddess. Each of these spots is honoured as a Shakti Peetha by devotees of the Goddess who are also referred to as Shaktas. The Devi Talab Mandir has the distinction of being one of the 51 prominent Shakti Peethas on the subcontinent. The temple marks the spot that was blessed with Maa Sati’s right breast.
The venue of the Shobha Yatra is special for Mamtamai Shri Radhe Maa who recommends the worship of Lord Shiva and Maa Jagadambika as the supreme antidote for all ills worldly as well as spiritual, and is herself a committed devotee of Devi and Lord Shiva. The Shobha Yatra is also special for sevadars of Mamtamai Shri Radhe Maa who are also devotees of Maa Parashakti and Lord Shiva enshrined in the Devi Talab Mandir as Shri Tripuramalini and Bhishan Bhairav.
Please be present at the Shobha Yatra procession and benefit from the boundless mercy of Maa Uma who never fails those who serve her with love and devotion. Jai Mata Di.
