Lord Ganesh is regarded as the Lord of Good Beginnings and every year his devotees excitedly await his arrival. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with much gusto and the ten days of the festival pass by with visiting those who have welcomed Ganesha into their homes and touring the most popular Ganapati mandals in the city. However at the time of Visarjan one is not only saddened by the fact that we have to bid adieu to the Lord but also by the polluting chemicals that enter the water from the immersed idols.
In recent years awareness has been created in adopting eco-friendly idols and decorations at the time of the Ganesh festival. In keeping with the concept of promoting pollution free festivities, Leon’s World Centre for Holistic Learning and Development is organising a special workshop to learn the art of crafting an Eco-Friendly Ganapati idol. Participants will be taught the art of sculpting the clay and making the idols themselves using simple tools. In past years, even those with no art background or sculpting with clay experience have successfully created idols at the workshop. They will also get to try their hand at making chocolate modaks and learn the art of Rangoli. To make more people aware of the culture and the concept behind the festival, the aarti and Ganesh Stotra will be explained as well.
This year, let the Ganpati festival be fun, exciting, full of music and high energy – let is also be pollution free.
