Kavnai fort 10km from igatpuri.The main entrance door of the fort still stands in a good condition and pond. There are many dilapidated structures of mansion by the side of this pond. There is a bastion at the western end of the fort. Also a cistern is located near this bastion. History : The fort, which is said to have been built by the Moghals, was ceded to the Peshwa by the Nizam in virtue of a treaty concluded after the battle of Udgir (1760) When the Marathas were defeated at Trimbak in 1818, Kavnai, like Tringalvadiand fifteen other neighbouring forts, fell without a struggle to the British.Captain Briggs who visited it after its surrender found two houses at the foot of the hill where the garrison lived.
Journey Details (Tentative itinerary) Catch the local train For Kasara on Sunday 22 July 2018. . Please do take return tickets. Timings are as follows: CST : 06:55 am DADAR : 07:08 Hrs KURLA : 07:15 Hrs GHATKOPAR : 07:19 Hrs THANE : 07:34 Hrs DOMBVIALI :07:47 Hrs KALYAN : 07:55 Hrs KASARA : 09:11 Hrs Please reach atleast 10 min. before on the desired location so that you don’t miss the train.(and try to catch 2nd compartment). We will meet at Kasara station and have breakfast.
Will start our journey towards base village of Fort. 10:30 am – Start easy hike towards fort 12:00 pm – Reach on summit Exploration, Lunch 13:30 Hrs: Descend & move towards base village.. 14:30 Hrs: At base village Rest time. Return journey will starts towards Mumbai We will be in Mumbai around at 19:00 Hrs (that’s – subjective)
