Kalakshetra hosts performances, lecture demonstrations and workshops throughout the year. There are three main annual festivals in Kalakshetra - at the end of February to celebrate the birth anniversary of the founder, Smt. Rukmini Devi; in September; and the annual Kalakshetra festival through the last week of December and first week of January.
In addition, Kalakshetra hosts performances every month, presenting both outstanding experts in the performing arts as well as upcoming young dancers and musicians. Performers can apply to present their work at Kalakshetra. The program department is interested in showcasing excellence in the arts - dance, music, theatre, puppetry, film, story telling of any form - from around India and abroad.
Art and craft exhibitions are also presented in the Crafts Education and Research Centre and painting department in Kalakshetra college at various times during the year.
Lecture demonstrations and workshops are an integral part of Kalakshetra's commitment to education in the performing arts. Artists are invited to speak to students and faculty on their area of expertise. Instructors from India and abroad have been resident at Kalakshetra to conduct workshops on various topics in the performing arts.
All are welcome to attend these programs at Kalakshetra. The annual ten day festival in December and January is ticketed. Most other programs are free and open to all. Information about these programs is sent via post and email to our mailing list, and also publicized on this website and in the newspapers, the Hindu and Adyar Times. Please watch these spaces for information, or check this website for updates on the calendar of events.
