Heritage Walk - Religion Walks.
Gurudwaras of Delhi. On the auspicious festival of Makar Sankranti.
Meeting Point: Chandni Chowk Metro (Town Hall exit), 11 am.
Ending Point: Rakabganj Gurudwara, near Connaught Place, 3 pm.
This walk takes you to some of the main historic Gurudwaras (sikh shrines) of Delhi. In the process we will learn more about Sikhism, its teachings and tenets and the inspiring lives of some of its Gurus. We will listen to shabad kirtan (Sikh devotional hymns), and enjoy karah prasad (a sweet preparation) and langar, a community offering of food.
Our walk coincides with the auspicious harvest festival of Makar Sankranti.
Itinerary & Places Visited -
11 am: Collect at Chandni Chowk metro.
11 am - 12:30 pm: Walk to Fatehpuri flower shops and Sis Ganj Gurudwara, the shrine of Guru Tegh Bahadur, the ninth Sikh guru.
12.30 - 1 pm: Metro ride to Rajeev Chowk Metro Station.
1 - 2 pm: Walk to offer prayers at Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, the shrine of Guru Har Krishan, the 8th guru of the Sikhs. Have Langar (community meal).
2-2.15 pm: Walk to Gurudwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, resting place of Guru Tegh Bahadur.
3 pm: Walk ends at Rakab Ganj Sahib.
Note: Dress appropriately for the temple. Carry scarves to cover your head.
Registration Details: Contribute Rs. 1,100/- per person (includes transport, snacks).
