Nimantran

Description: The 1971 classic by Tarun Majumder continues to awe Audience till date. Based on a story by Bibhutibhusan Bandyopadhyay, it narrates how two people fell in love, drifted far apart, and met again, a long, long, time later. Sandhya Roy and Anup Kumar perfectly portray Hiru and Kumu, and we are overwhelmed by the simple strength of their talent. Prepare to be enchanted, again, by the moving performances, that over the years have simply refused to fade away. The appreciation for this movie is effortless because Classics never go out of style. Winner of National Film Award for the best feature film in Bengali in 1971, and several BFJA awards, the film also comprises melodious music by Hemanta Mukhopadhyay (who won a National Award for Nimantran), Kanika Bandopadhyay and others.

Cast: Sandhya Roy, Anup Kumar, Kali Bannerjee, Pahari Sanyal, Nandini Maliya, Jahar Roy

Sunday : 9:50 am, Screen 2

Alo

Adapted from the legendary Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay’s short story “Kinnordol”, Alo is a beautifully crafted tale of a young, urban woman finding new meanings and dimensions of life in a rural setting. Director Tarun Majumdar masterfully depicts a range of conflicts which the protagonist goes through and her resolve to overcome them.

The film was a critical and commercial success with Rituparna Sengupta’s outstanding performance being praised by one and all. It broke several box office records and went on to be nominated for the National Awards. The film is also remembered for its tasteful use of Tagore’s songs to accentuate and further the narrative.

Cast: Rituparna Sengupta, Kunal Mitra, Abhishek Chatterjee, Abanti Mohan Bandyopadhyay.
