A grayish-black colored primordial beast roams the vast flood plains of Kaziranga. Weighing up to 3500 kilos the One-Horned Rhinoceros is the pride of Kaziranga, and of India. Relentlessly poached for their horns, the Rhino was on the edge of the precipice leading to extinction. In 1966, only 366 individuals called Kaziranga their home. The situation was grave, but action was taken. All was not lost. With excellent conservation tactics and able management, the Rhino was brought back from near extinction. One of the biggest wildlife success stories of all time had taken place. A gentle giant had been saved. Travelers from all over the world visit these splendid plains to catch a glimpse of this animal, a beacon of hope for future wildlife conservation!.
