Here we are, alone together
What matter whether we wandered far?
And though we haven't got a bankful,
We can still be thankful
That here we are!"
Here we are, calling all friends again, for an evening of film- watching, snack-munching, and yapping.
Our film of choice this time is the brilliant 2008 animated project by Nina Paley, Sita Sings the Blues.
Sita Sings the Blues defies many conventions of story-telling to depict the tale of Ramayana as Sita must have seen and felt it. The beautiful voice of Annette Hanshaw wafts though the film, as the characters of Ramayana in the film are pulled apart and brought back together to the sounds of some lovely blues and jazz. The story of Sita in the narrative is juxtaposed with Nina's own story of heartbreak.
If you have watched this one already, one more dekko with friends will only make it more special.
If you haven't watched it, then welcome aboard!
Send us an email if you like, confirming your attendance.
And yes, spread the word!
Bring a friend. Or two!
