FICCI CASCADE – SEMINAR ON COMBATING COUNTERFEITING AND SMUGGLING

An Imperative to Accelerate Economic Development’

The drain on businesses and the global economy from counterfeit and smuggled goods is of great concern worldwide and are virtually impacting every sector. India is no exception and there are significant impacts of widespread smuggling and counterfeiting in the country. It not only poses health and safety risks for consumers but it also has a negative impact on the economic growth of the nation as it reduces job growth and lowers tax collections for the government. Study also suggests that money earned from such products is used for funding terrorist organisations thereby affecting the national security. Consumer sensitization is considered as an important catalyst to curb this menace.

While these issues continue to plague the country, FICCI CASCADE (Committee against Smuggling and Counterfeiting Activities Destroying in the Economy) is constantly fighting these components that are hindering the socio-economic development of the nation.

With a view to generate awareness on the hazardous impact of smuggled and counterfeit products, FICCI CASCADE is organizing a seminar in Thiruvananthapuram on “Combating Counterfeiting and Smuggling- An Imperative to Accelerate Economic Development” on February 21, 2018. In a bid to engage relevant stakeholders, comprising enforcement agencies, government representatives, legal experts, and consumer activists, the seminar will be a common platform for everyone to raise the issues over the increasing illicit trade in the country.

The seminar will include a special address from the prominent personalities in the relevant space, and a panel discussion on ‘Countering Counterfeiting and Smuggling - Solutions and Resolutions’.

Mr. P. Thilothaman, Minister for Food and Civil Supplies, Government of Kerala, Adv. V. S. Sunil Kumar, Minister for Agriculture, Government of Kerala and Mr. Sanjay M. Kaul IAS, Secretary, Industries & Commerce, Government of Kerala has kindly consented to deliver the address at the seminar.
