About The Event

"Activity before Concept, Concept before Vocabulary". That is how you should learn science. Selected 25 experiments/activities from syllabus of physics, chemistry and biology for the class 8th to help students learn science through experiment. These experiments will help them learn concepts better and forever. We will cover the concepts in theory class and also enable students to design these experiments. It is learning science with the fun of doing experiments.

For whom: Ideal for students going to 8th grade in the next academic year or those who have just completed 8th grade.

List of experiments:

  1. Measuring push or pull using speedcart/concept of net force.
  2. Pressure depends on height not on volume.
  3. Finding effect of weight, surface area and surfaces on on friction.
  4. Sound propagation in vacuum.
  5. Determine if sound absorption by acoustic foam and similar materials changes with the frequency of sound.
  6. Oxygen is required for combustion- debunking the myth
  7. Effect of static electricity on water stream and on metal cylinder./Shock from static electricity.
  8. Anodizing
  9. Make plastic from milk protein.
  10. Testing pH levels of household substances.
  11. Demo: Reaction of sodium with water.
  12. Acid and base reactions with metals and non-metails.
  13. Show that iron is more reactive than copper.
  14. Nature of oxides
  15. Observing microscopic life present in water.
  16. Observe the effects of short-term ultraviolet light exposure on bacteria. Safely culture and study common bacteria from your everyday surroundings.
  17. Study the mode of reproduction in yeasts/ fermementation using yeast
  18. Model diffusion in cells by infusing cubes of agar with PH indicator and then soaking the treated cubes in vinegar.
  19. Observe different types of animal cells.
  20. Electroplating by copper.
  21. Electrolysis of water
  22. Use syringes and pipes to control the movement of elevator through hydraulic pressure
  23. Separating distinct colours from a given light using colour filters and observing the loss of a particular wavelength peak using spectrometer.
  24. Observe the plant cells (onion tissue)
  25. Observe lactobacillus/fungi under the microscope.

When you go back to your classroom, you would find understanding the concept easier, you would learn it faster, better and forever.

Number of experiments: 25

Duration:  5 days, 4 hour session each day.
