About The Event

Course Summary

This course highlights storage technology in vendor neutral terms. It is a comprehensive introduction to fundamental storage capabilities and the building blocks that underpin those capabilities across storage disciplines. The setting is practical and applied to help the student participate in addressing storage issues as part of a multidisciplinary team. In addition, the course prepares the student for the SNIA Storage Network Foundations SNIA S10-101 Exam, EMC Information Storage Associate (EMCISA) v2 certification  and as it becomes available, the CompTIA Storage+ Exam.

Overview

Explosive information growth has resulted in a people shortage. Many people take storage product training, however, few understand the breadth of storage capabilities. Still fewer understand the basic building blocks that underpin those capabilities. As a result, it is difficult to find people with an integrated literacy across storage disciplines.

This course seeks to balance the technical breadth of storage professionals. It enables the storage administrator to improve their problem-solving skills while gaining transferable technical depth. It enables the manager to understand limits and choose strategic direction. Both are no longer bound by vendor specific language, and in fact, they will share a common language.

The many terms including SAN, Array, Migration, Replica and Clone, by name sound like characters in a science fiction movie. Understanding the terms composition, roles and interactions provide the foundation for developing and maintaining storage solutions. Business depends on these storage solutions. They are not just building blocks, they are put together certain ways to meet a purpose.

Recommended Pre-learning

  • To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a participant must have a basic understanding of computer architecture, operating systems, networking, and databases. Participants with experience in specific segments of storage infrastructure would also be able to fully assimilate the course material.

Expected Outcome

  • Evaluate storage architectures and key data center elements in classic, virtualized and cloud environments
  • Explain physical and logical components of a storage infrastructure including storage subsystems, RAID and intelligent storage systems
  • Describe storage networking technologies such as FC-SAN, IP-SAN, FCoE, NAS and object-based, and unified storage
  • Understand and articulate business continuity solutions – backup and replications, along with archive for managing fixed content
  • Explain key characteristics, services, deployment models, and infrastructure components for a cloud computing
  • Describe information security requirements and solutions, and identify parameters for managing and monitoring storage infrastructure in classic, virtualized and cloud environments
  • Pass SNIA S10-101 Exam and/or CompTIA Storage+ Exam. Have strong practical and verbal understanding of storage and storage networking concepts.
  • Pass the Information Storage and Management v2 course prepares you for EMC Information Storage Associate (EMCISA) v2 certification and supports the new E10-001 Information Storage and Management Version 2 Exam.

Duration

3 or 4 full days (Instructor Led) over weekends + practice exercises, quizzes and exams (Online eLearning) Note: Practice questions in the course are aligned to the certification exam objectives.

Examinations

S10-101 Examinations leading to SNIA CERTIFIED STORAGE PROFESSIONAL (SCSP) are held on all continents. Possession of this certificate is mandatory for all candidates who wish to reach 'full certification' as a SNIA CERTIFIED STORAGE NETWORKING EXPERT. Persons holding this certification tend to earn 15% more than their counterparts in the storage community without the credential, and 25% more than the local average compensation for IT personnel in their market.

CompTIA examinations leading to CompTIA Storage Plus,  powered by SNIA are held on all continents. Expected availability for this exam is late 2011. Possession of this certificate is an alternative for all candidates who wish to reach 'full certification' as a SNIA CERTIFIED STORAGE NETWORKING EXPERT. Persons holding this certification tend to earn 15% more than their counterparts in the storage community without the credential, and 25% more than the local average compensation for IT personnel in their market.

EMC Proven Professional is the leading education and certification program in the IT industry, providing comprehensive coverage of information storage technologies, virtualization, cloud computing, data/big data analytics, and more...Being Proven means investing in yourself and formally validating your expertise!. The Information Storage and Management v2 course prepares you for EMC Information Storage Associate (EMCISA) v2 certification and supports the new E10-001 Information Storage and Management Version 2 Exam.

Certificate Advantages

  • Certification insures that staff has a benchmarked level of knowledge and skill.
  • Recruiting and retention are simplified.
  • Possession of an internationally recognized competence certificate is a personal achievement that will help foster commitment and increase job satisfaction.
