Dussera festival at DakshinaChitra is a celebration of Karnataka’s tradition and culture. The event is sponsored by Department of Kannada and Culture, Government of Karnataka.
As part of the celebration, DakshinaChitra has invited Sri Mahadeva and troupe from Karnataka, to perform Puja Kunita- the traditional folk dance of Karnataka from 28th September to 6th October 2013.
Puja Kunitha is a popular ritualistic folk dance of Karnataka practiced largely around Bangalore and Mandya districts. It is extremely colorful and visually delightful.
They are performed profusely in religious processions, fairs and festivals.
As part of the festival there will be display and sale of Lambani embroidery by Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra- Karnataka. The Lambanis have a wide repertoire of songs which are sung not only as part of celebrations but also while doing work.
The craftshop at DakshinaChitra will present a special feature on Karnataka with an exquisite range Kondapalli toys and other golu dolls for Dussera.
The heritage houses at DakshinaChitra will showcase Golu in keeping with the
Tamil Nadu tradition of Navaratri celebrations.
