About the author: The author is LT GEN ZAMEER UDDIN SHAH, PVSM, SM, VSM, EX DEPUTY CHIEF OF ARMY STAFF & FORMER VICE-CHANCELLOR: ALIGARH MUSLIM UNIVERSITY (AMU). He was Born on 15 August 1948 the author is an alumnus of St Joseph’s College, Nainital, National Defence Academy and Indian Military Academy. He spent 40 years in the Army and has experience in diplomacy, judiciary and education. He has two brothers and one of them is Actor Mr. Naseeruddin Shah.
About the book: In this Book the Author explains the intriguing title of 'The Sarkari Mussalman' ( Government Stooge), which those in Government service are often accused of being when they 'Go by the Rules'. The author has covered the span of his life covering early education in the family 'Madarsa', then onto a Christian Irish Brothers boarding school, army service of 40 years, the 1971 war for liberation of Bangla-Desh and service in the most inhospitable and dangerous locations, particularly North East India. He never experienced any anti-Muslim bias His most taxing experience was restoring the rule of law in riot hit Gujarat in 2002. The Army put an end to the mayhem within 48 hours by resolute, firm and fair action. He also spent three years in Saudi Arabia as the Defence Attache. Post retirement, he spent three years adjudicating justice in the Armed Forces Tribunal and five years as VC of Aligarh Muslim University which in his final year was ranked by International Ranking Agencies as the top most University of the Country. He strongly feels that Indian Muslims need education, as discrimination, which certainly exists, is against the less educated.
