Call to all artists and passionate sketchers of the city to respond to VIBGYOR’s new intiative- a series of live sketching sessions - starting this monsoon! The sessions will include on spot sketches by the participants with the intention of learning quick hand movements and free line formations. The first in this series is Archi Sketch - live sketching of the architectural grandeur of Bhau Daji Lad Museum, Byculla, Mumbai.

 

 

 

Some very interesting artwork is on display as part of the on-going BDL exhibition 'Notes on Labour' where a few sheets of motifs from the 19th century book 'Journal of Art'are on display in the Origins of Mumbai Gallery (1st floor). Participants will be permitted to project these motifs on the walls and draw on the projectionswithin the first floor gallery.

Things to Carry:

 

  • Drawing book/paper/note pad
  • Pencil/erasers/pen/ink and any other stationery required for you to sketch
  • Any hard support to rest the drawing sheet/book on the lap is allowed. However, as per museum norms, you are not allowed to carry huge drawing boards/canvas inside the premises.

 

 

 

Code of conduct:

 

  • Prior registration is mandatory.
  • Once registered there will be no cancellation.
  • Participants must reach the main entrance of the museum building (ticket counter) on or before 10:00a.m.
  • Entry ticket will be paid by the organiser.
  • Parking fees if any must be paid by the participant.
  • Participants will not be allowed to carry easel/stands inside the museum.
  • Each participant must ensure that their conduct including the practice of art should not hamper any museum décor.
  • Any damage caused to the museum to be compensated by the concerned.The organiser is not responsible for any such damage.
  • Use of water colour/oil color/acrylic in this session is strictly prohibited. Only pencils and drawing pens are allowed.
  • Participants need to maintain decorum and remain quiet inside the museum
  • Other regular visitors of the museum must not be disturbed
  • More than two participants should not flock at the same location to sketch at one particular time
  • Consumption of chewing gum/paan/guthka inside the museum is strictly prohibited.
  • Participation in 'Notes on Labour' exhibition will be in small groups, assisted by the Museum Officials.
  • Participants should abide by the rules set by the organiser/mentor/museum authority.
  • All the participants are free to take back their own sketches home.

 

 

 

About Bhau Daji Lad Museum

 

The Dr. Bhau Daji Lad Mumbai City Museum is the oldest museum in Mumbai. Situated in Byculla East, it was originally established in 1855 as a treasure house of the decorative and industrial arts, and was later renamed in honour of Bhau Daji.
