A morning of traditional games and stories they tell

India has a rich culture of games and traditional board games are rich in variety and form. There are a variety of games of different types from race games, strategy games, cross and circle games, games of distribution and other folk games.

Traditionally play was a way to pass the time. As extended families live together, they would settle down to play – children, parents, grandparents, uncles and aunts. These games are elemental enough to cut across age, social background, financial background and appeal to everyone alike.

Over the years, people have forgotten how to play. It is only of late with a resurgence of interest in games and game play that adults have begun to play again.

The purpose of the morning will be to introduce participants to a variety of traditional games and understand their history, antiquity as well as their cultural influences.

There will be short talk on Traditional games and the stories they tell and this will be followed by a play session with a select three games. Play will not be structured thus allowing participants to explore and interact with the Kreeda team members present at the location.
