Taipei Economic and Cultural Center & ICCR presents "Heartbeat of Taiwan" by JU Percussion Group
Program Introduction: The Ju Percussion Group has specially prepared 8 pieces of its own musical creation for Indian audience. The elements gathered in these creations include various kinds of musical styles from the aboriginal in Taiwan, Okinawa in Japan, Serbia in Africa and Balkan Peninsula. The internationally well-known composer, Koji Sakurai, has elaborately created two pieces of music by adapting 2 film scores from “Slumdog Millionaire” into the form of dance-tuned percussion keeping the softness of songs intact. The other piece of music is presented by picking up 4 popular Bollywood film scores and turning them into a suite.
About Ju Percussion Group: The Ju Percussion Group (JPG), founded in January 1986, is the first percussion ensemble established in Taiwan. Under the direction of Ju, Tzong-Ching, JPG has become known worldwide for its innovative blend of East and West, traditional and contemporary.
Since its establishment, JPG has been on extensive overseas tours throughout the continents of Asia, Europe, Australia and Americas, including the Chekhov International Theatre Festival in Moscow, the festival of the Performing Arts in Beijing, Canton Asian Music Festival, Percussion Arts Society International Convention and received critical acclaim. JPG has given 2,300 performances internationally and reached to 2.5 million audiences.
