GeomTech Programming contest can be tough test to CAx developer also. You can use innovative way and means to get out of box solution for the problem. Who know you may come up with new algorithm which become famous by your name !

Hybrid computing, spatial searching, divide and conquer algorithm, multithreaded programming or any method you want to use you have freedom.

This year there are two challenges where participation entries can be submitted seperately.

  • 2D point location in planer triangulation
  • 3D point location in triangulated solid

2D point location in planer triangulation

  • GeomTech2011 is being conducted in Asia. More precisely, it is been conducted very close to a point at longitude 73° 55' east and latitude 18° 31' north. Where that is? You can find that out yourself from a map of Asia: using the scales of the map, you will find that the point with the coordinates stated above is city named “Pune“
  • In this way you would have answered a point location query: Given a map and a query point q specified by its coordinates, find the region of the map containing q. A map, of course, is nothing more than a subdivision of the plane into regions, a planar subdivision.

3D point location in triangulated solid

  • These days' pilots no longer have their first flying experience in the air, but on the ground in a flight simulator. This is cheaper for the air company, safer for the pilot, and better for the environment. Only after spending many hours in the simulator are pilots allowed to operate the control stick of a real airplane.
  • Flight simulators must perform many different tasks to make the pilot forget that she is sitting in a simulator. An important task is to detect collusion detection in real time and provide hepatic feedback
  • Determining whether a point is inside a polyhedron has many applications, including    collision detection, point containment, mesh generation.
  • Determining if a moving point (e.g., the tip of a tool) has penetrated an object in its environment is an instance.
  • The convex and non-convex polyhedron with more million triangles would be our test case.
  • Evaluation:

    GeomTech jury would evaluate the uploaded solutions and provide the grades according to the following criteria

    • Time
    • Memory
    • Algorithm Design
    • Accuracy
    • Use of parallelization (if any)
    • Use of hybrid computing (if any)

    Top short listed candidate would be called for second round.
    Second round involves presentation by the candidate to jury to defend his solution.
