Celebrating The Happiest Moment - Solo show by Bhumika Dange. Medium: Acrylic on canvas.
Here is a work of much innocence. On the face of it,we are presented with young figures with armful of flowers, with painters' brushes, hair-dos complete with sweet smelling fragrant jasmines, chameli, or whatever; at others pages of newspapers; at still chosen moments affection or tenderness between loving couples. Add to this the puppet like figure, arms akimbo! This one may be deemed the spirit stimulating joker in life's pack of cards. Such is the thematic nature of this work.
But then the true import of any contemporary painting is by indirection. So this one by Bhumika. In her compositions colours are a riot, and that is how, surely, the vibrant humanity of the state of Rajasthan responds to its often browned, and rather unmitigated by moisture natural environs. So come the sumptuous hand-woven fabrics and similar craft objects as enliven each moment of the common life. Catchy rhythmic drums and the stringed instruments second fiddle those bright colours so as to give a vigorous shot of life to the high-spirited Rajasthanis.
