ACM Chennai Professional Chapter cordially invites you to a talk and chapter meeting on Saturday, Dec 18, 2010 at IIT Madras. The details on the event are provided below.
Title: Greening IT, one datacenter at a time
Power consumption of datacenters has become a significant part of the IT infrastructure bills of organizations. This warrants a systematic study of the as-is scenario in typical datacenters, identification of areas of improvement, and implementation of conservation measures. In
this talk, we first present our lessons from an empirical study of a production datacenter from a joint power-performance study at the server level. Inspired by this, we next discuss the problem of
consolidation of servers while maintaining some provisioning guarantees from an algorithmic perspective. Finally, we discuss typical issues involved in conservation measures in practice.
