Our offering is designed to musically explore every aspect of this fascinating industry which vies for the top spot for mass entertainment with none other than “Hollywood”.
This show highlights the essence of Bollywood Music and looks at contributions from great artistes in the various fields of music through the past decades.
Bollywood Music?s greatest strength has been the creativity of its contributors. It has benefited hugely from the versatility of music directors, lyricists, musicians and the ability of a host of extraordinary playback singers.
Film making started in India on 3rd May 1913 when Dadasaheb Phalke released the silent Raja Harishchandra. Cinema started speaking with its first talkie Alam Ara in 1931. But it really came to fore in 1940s with the advent of musical stars like Noorjehan and K L Saigal.
In “Bollywood...A Musical Journey” we take a nostalgic yet forward looking journey through decades of Bollywood Music from the 1940s into the new millennium.
Through song, dance and narration we travel these eras experiencing, analysing and being enthralled by the work of music directors such as Naushad,S D Burman, O P Nayyar, Madan Mohan, Shankar Jaikishan, Laxmikant Pyarelal, Kalyanji Anandji , R D Burman and a host of others right upto Rajesh Roshan, Himmesh Reshamiya, Shankar Ehsaan Loy, Vishaal Shekhar and the present superstar of World music ...A R Rahman.
We look at the tremendous contributions of lyricists like Sahir Ludhiyanvi, Majrooh Sultanpuri, Rajinder Kishan, Shailendra, Anand Bakshi, Gulzar and others up to the present hugely talented song writers like Sameer, Javed Akhtar and Vishaal Dadlani.
We rejoice in the melodious voices of Lata Mangeshkar, Mohammed Rafi, Mukesh, Asha Bhonsle, Kishor Kumar, Manna Dey and others along with the present phenomenally gifted singers like Sonu Nigaam and Shreya Ghoshal.
In our journey we also attempt to analyse the effects of prevalent situations and events through the years, which have influenced Bollywood Music, like the socialistic influence of the sixties, the dissatisfaction and rebellion of the common man of the seventies right up to the spectre of terrorism of the nineties and the new millennium.
This grandly conceptualised and produced extravaganza has, as with every Niche Entertainment venture, at its heart exquisite music, dance and all its associations.
This is an unusual take on stage shows. It simply cannot be missed.
