Workshop on Use of Concentrating Solar Technologies (CSTs) for Community cooking and Air conditioning Applications in Institution and Religious Sectors Under UNDP-GEF Concentrated Solar Heat Project Ministry of New & Renewable Energy Government of India At Sinhagad College of Engineering,Vadgaon, off Sinhagad Road, PUNE: 411041

Organisers: PRINCE Suman Foundation Dhule & Sinhagad College of Engineering, Pune In association with: Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Govt. of India.

Objective of Workshop:

Solar concentrator technologies have good success stories in India with world’s biggest solar cooking system at Shirdi. Similar systems are in use at Tirupati, Mount Abu, many educational and religious organisations, hotels etc. There are few central air-conditioning systems also successfully deployed. However promotion of technologies and adoption by prospective beneficiaries is slow. Main bottleneck observed in promotion is the awareness about the systems amongst prospective beneficiaries. UNDP-GEF in association with MNRE has launched market development initiative for different Solar Concentrating systems for prospective beneficiaries. Proposed workshop is an effort to make prospective beneficiaries aware of such systems. 90 project proposals developed through such programs will be entitled for additional funding of Rs. 15 lakhs for demonstration projects and Rs. 4 lakhs for replication project. These grants are over and above regular subsidies of MNRE.Who Should Attend: All educations and charitable organisations, religious places etc. where few hundred people eat every day. OR all organisations where central air-conditioning is practiced with sizes above 50 tons. All such organisations can understand the different schemes of UNDP-GEF and MNRE under the current project. We expect that at least two persons from each prospective beneficiary organisation, one senior management person who can take financial decision and one technical person to understand the technology part should attend. Also people in solar business, consultants who have good contacts with prospective clients are welcome to attend. Participants will also have opportunity to meet the MNRE & UNDP officials, prospective technology providers and consultants during
the workshop.
