About the workshop

The only thing we know for sure about future is that future is rife with uncertainty. Yet we are always making decisions in all walks of life. Knowing possible outcomes makes us smarter and our businesses competitive.

For a long time, our ability to make decisions under uncertainty remained an art and a matter of luck. With our ability to collect and store enormous amounts of data, the intelligence we need to make smart decisions are available to us. Now simple tools are available to help us learn from our past experiences and make quantitative estimates of future outcomes. These tools are easily accessible to the executive of today’s businesses.

This workshop is an introduction to the underlying techniques in making smart decisions. These techniques are based on statistical techniques – specifically Bayesian way of thinking. Starting by demystifying concepts in statistics, we will journey through various techniques with hands on tools that help in understanding how to evaluate future outcomes. Participants will be exposed to a broad range of applications, including financial applications, medicine, Court Rooms, IT applications, SW management.  What we learn in this workshop forms some of the basic underlying techniques of modern Machine Learning
