About The Event

What is TED?

TED is a global foundation devoted to “Ideas Worth Spreading”. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. It is the largest international meeting in the world where the best minds come together to share ideas. With its two annual conferences, video website TED.com, initiatives and community projects, TED is now a platform and a global movement focused on meaningful change through the power of ideas.

What is TEDx?

TEDx was created in the spirit of TED's mission, Ideas Worth Spreading. The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level.

At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos -- or a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos -- spark deep conversation and connections.

TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.     

TEDxSonaCollege

 TEDxSonaCollege, is to be held in Salem, Tamil Nadu. It is an event where speakers from diverse fields come to share their thoughts and ideas. The event is scheduled to be held on 9th June 2012, Saturday. This is an event of global repute and is a one day event. I am sure you would have come across a few TED talks before. These TED events are held all over the world every year and most eminent personalities would have spoken at atleast one of the TED talks.

Sona College of Technology is an engineering college located in Salem, Tamil Nadu. It is considered as one of the best engineering colleges in the country and is moving higher in the list of best engineering colleges in India. The college is located in the heart of Salem city and is easily accessible by road from Bangalore and Chennai, which are the nearest metro cities.

Arvind Thiagarajan Founder of HD Medical Group that develops Cardiac diagnostic devices and the inventor of the HD FonoDoc which is based on the Core Technology for acquiring and analyzing Heart Sounds to detect cardiac defects. He was mentored by Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India and he graduated from the College of Engineering, Guindy, Anna University in India with an engineering degree in Electronics and Communications. He specializes in signal processing and algorithm development with more than 40 pending patents and several award winning technical publications under his name. He was awarded the "Junior Scientist 2001" in India for a paper presented on the "Role of Multimedia PCs in Healthcare".

A. Muruganatham


His innovation to churn out low-cost sanitary napkins is a double boon to poor women of rural India: they can lead a hygienic lifestyle and it helps them earn a living too!Forty-seven-year-old A Muruganantham does not like to call himself a businessman. The company he has started, Jayashree Industries, supplies machines and raw material for making sanitary napkins. The difference is that his machines go only to poor women in the rural areas. There are already 250 machines installed in 18 states in India.Last year, President Pratibha Patil presented the National Innovation Foundation's 'Fifth National Grassroots Technological Innovations and Traditional Knowledge Award' to him in New Delhi.His machine was chosen by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology to be deployed in Africa. Though a school dropout, the success of his innovation has enabled him to go to IIM-Ahmedabad as a visiting professor and talk about his work. He was one of the speakers at the TiE (The Indus Entrepreneurs) conference too.

Durjoy Datta


Durjoy Datta is the author of five bestsellers, Of Course I Love You! (2008), Now That You’re Rich! (2009), She Broke Up, I Didn’t! (2010), Ohh Yes, I Am Single! (2011) and You Were My Crush! (2011). His sixth book is slated to release in January 2012. He has sold of over one million copies of the five books.

Durjoy Datta is the second highest selling author in India (Source: AC Nielson Bookscan). He was awarded as young achiever at the 12TH Teachers Achievement Awards and joined the ranks of people like Anushka Sharma, Ranbir Kapoor, Boman Irani, Shashi Tharoor amongst others.
