Now many of us have heard of and even celebrated St Patrick's Day, but what is it really about?
St Patrick's day was originally celebrated in Ireland and subsequently in other parts of the world where Irish communities settled with parades and parties. It is a day (17 march) to commemerate the death of Saint Patrick, who introduced the catholic religion to Ireland. He used the shamrock or clover leaf as a metaphor to explain 'the trinity (the father, son and holy spirit), hence the significance of the sybol to the Irish. Today the event is celebrated all over the world by Irish and non Irish alike and is known to be a time for fun and merriment.
Every holiday can be made that much better when you take a little extra time to get into the true spirit and flavor that the celebration was meant to have. Here are some tips on how to celebrate the occasion:
1) Wear something green: Anything really- a shirt, troursers, hat, shoes etc
2) Get ready to party
3) Drink some green beer, Guiness or Irish Whiskey
