Epic ‘Quli’ Returns to Hyderabad after Global Conquest
Termed as an ‘Indian masterpiece’ by the European media, ‘mesmerizing’ by the US press and ‘magical’ by Turkish channels, ‘Quli: Dilon ka Shahzaada’, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation’s internationally-acclaimed theatre spectacle brings the love legend of Quli Qutub Shah and Bhagmati to life once again. Returning to Hyderabad after a splendid run of 20 shows in 5 countries and the crème de la crème of international festivals where Mohammad Ali Baig’s real-life portrayal of the protagonist received standing ovations, it will be staged at Shilpa Kala Vedika Auditorium on June 6th by Telangana State Formation Celebrations.
With a poetic narrative, fine mélange of powerful performances, live music, shadow dance and aesthetic design, audiences around the world were taken back in time to Hyderabad kingdom of the 17th Century. As G. Kishan Rao, Chairman, Telangana Tourism who is organising the show says, “Mohammad Ali Baig symbolises the city’s heritage as an icon of culture and this play aptly represents the state’s ganga-jamuni tehzeeb”.
Written by Noor Baig and Mohammad Ali Baig, with Urdu translation by Kadir Zaman, produced by Begum Razia Baig, designed and directed by Mohammad Ali Baig, ‘Quli : Dilon ka Shahzaada’ is a true masterpiece of professional theatre. This show commemorates 31stdeath anniversary of theatre doyen Qadir Ali Baig saheb, to whom the Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Foundation pays tribute. With Mohammad Ali Baig in the title role, the play features Noor Baig, Rashmi Seth, Vijay Prasad and Ustad Ahsan Hussain Khan.
