National Conference on Services Marketing-Changing Paradigms

National Conference on Services Marketing-Changing Paradigms

About The Event

Introduction

The development of a nation's economy depends on the contribution of the three major sectors such as manufacturing, agriculture and services. Among these three, the share of the service sector in the nation’s economy has been steadily growing over the past few decades. Some of the growth in the service sector can be attributed to the advances that have occurred in the field of information technology. Knowledge-based services like banking and insurance, consultancy, health care and education are now actively operated across countries. As a result, service industries have become increasingly competitive, motivating practitioners to seek differentiation and competitive advantage through the application of contemporary marketing practices. This fast growth of services industries and service economy has stimulated interest in services marketing theory and practice. India is a growing economy, much of whose growth is fuelled by its service sector. The share of services in India's GDP increased rapidly from 30.5 per cent in 1950-51 to 55.2 per cent in 2009-10. There are a number of reasons for the growth of services sector in India. Important among them are changing patterns of government ownership and regulation; privatization and relaxation of restrictions; technological innovations; customers' expectations of improved quality of life; and internationalization and globalization. The marketing and management academic community around the world, responding to such growth in services sector, has escalated its research efforts making services central focus of its interest.
