About The Event

Dear Mumbai Lindy Hoppers and Swing dancers!

It is about time that Mumbai Lindy Hoppers tune a little more and understand how to use music to aid your dance. Musicality it is!

Part 1 of workshop: Musicality in Lindy Hop
This workshop introduces what musicality is and how to use it to make your dance a lot of fun, improvisational and creative based on the song you are dancing to. Instead of just dancing with a set of steps in mind, we learn how to improvise and dance to lyrics and instruments in the song. We will learn several moves in this workshop which will enable the quality of improvisation and musicality to a better level. We will learn how to slow down while dancing a fast song and pick up the speed again. We will learn how to take pauses. We will learn how to add more fun elements in your dancing so that it is not a boring dance anymore!

Part 2 of workshop: Introduction to BalSwing (Balboa)
So many of you swing dancers know and have learned several forms of swing dancing including 6 count swing, east coast swing, charleston and Lindy Hop from me or possibly elsewhere. This time we move forward with another form of swing dancing called as Balboa or BalSwing. BalSwing is a modern version of Balboa where more swing elements in their natural form can be incorporated into the dance. While usually Balboa or BalSwing is dance which is danced at much higher bpm and faster songs, but for more intricate footwork variations even slow tempo songs can be used to do Balboa. As beginners we will start with slow tempo songs to get our footwork on the mark! BalSwing will add another variety that you could use to dance at the socials as well!  Here are couple of videos to see how BalSwing looks like. Please do not worry about the speed of the dancers, we definitely start at much slower sleep so that everyone can do this.

These workshops are open to people who have done a few hours of Swing and Lindy Hop before with me or anyone else. The workshops may be useful for newcomers to swing dance with minimum experience as long as you don't have two left feet and can get to the rhythm quick.

Everyone who has been invited to the event is definitely a fit for these workshops. If you have not been invited to this workshop but still would like to join us, please get in touch with me at 9820633374 to see if you are a good fit for the workshops. You may invite your friends to this event, but again please check with me if they would be benefited from these workshops

If you have questions, please reach me at 9820633374 (call or whatsapp)

1) What to wear?
Ans: Comfortable clothing. Do not wear extremely tight or extremely loose clothing.

2) Do I need to bring separate shoes for dancing?
Ans: As a general rule of thumb, dancers all over the world carry a separate pair of dance shoes which they wear on the dance floor. For this session, girls and guys wear shoes with no or very tiny heels, smooth slick soles. No sneakers, no flip flops, no slippers, no bare feet, no socks. You do not need to buy new shoes for the 1st session, just bring the best you can. But as an etiquette do not use outdoor shoes on the dance floor. (For balboa, girls could wear shoes with heels, but for this session we will keep it simple and just have flat soles shoes for everyone)
