Shadow and Light was born on a cold November afternoon in New Delhi, from the efforts of two people - Pavithra Chari and Anindo Bose; to unlock the potential within a few notes of music.
Anindo Bose has been a member of the band Advaita since it's inception. He has been featured on Coke studio and MTV unplugged as well as toured internationally to countries like England, Africa, Singapore and Maldives. He along with Advaita have won various awards including GIMA (Global Indian Music Awards) and have also lent their music to prominent films like 'Wazir' featuring Amitabh Bachchan.
Pavithra has trained in Hindustani classical under Shri. Satya Narayan Maharana for over ten years and is currently honing her musical skills under the tutelage of Smt. Shubha Mudgal. A recipient of the Shri Netar Kapur Scholarship for 2015, she represented India as a vocalist at Ethno, an international music camp in Belgium and Germany. Pavithra has sung for an Himachali film ‘Saanjh’ and has also collaborated with critically acclaimed playback singer Mohit Chauhan.
Together the duo's style of music in the compositions are Hindustani classical, pop, jazz, and electronic. Shadow and Light released their debut self-titled album in June 2014. The songs on the album are written about personal milestones and obstacles, about the eternal mystery that we call life and the little everyday things that matter to us most. They were chosen as the 1st runner up of the ‘Sennheiser top 50’ competition in 2015 and won the opportunity to record with one of Bollywood’s top production studios - ‘Flying Carpet Productions’.
2016 has been a magical year for the band as they released their second album 'Elements' in February along with a music video for 'Dua' on Pepsi MTV Indies. They were also invited to shoot with Kappa TV - a Malayalam speciality music television channel with programs like Music Mojo. Shadow and Light have opened for the likes of Anoushka Shankar and Ranjit Barot and have played their music as a collaboration with Karsh Kale (NY) and Benny Dayal on the main stage at NH7 weekender, Mood Indigo and Red Bull Studio Science. They have played at various festivals and events across the country including 'Taalbelia', 'Chandigarh Jazz Festival' and 'H&M' India Launch. 2017 has started off with a bang for Shadow and Light; They won the ‘Best Pop Act 2016 - Judges choice award' by Radio City and also embarked on a week long Sri Lanka tour.
